Schmuck im Norden Deutschlands

Beitragvon Kelvin Wilson » 08.08.2009 20:06

Next week I think I might take a long trip up north from the Netherlands, into northern Germany and perhaps Denmark..... I would appreciate tips on museums housing prehistoric costume (accessoires) collections along my route.

I have, by the way, already been to the museum at Schleswig, so this time am especially interested in the Lueneburger 'Fluegelhaube'... where are those finds on show, if anywhere??

Danke,

Kelvin Wilson

You should visit Moesgaard near Aarhus

http://www.moesmus.dk/

and - off course - the Danish National Museum in København

http://www.nationalmuseet.dk/

The most interesting finds you will see in these two museums, but moreover there are hundreds of small local museums in Denmark, a list would go beyond the scope of this forum. A short list you may find here:

Good luck and a nice trip

The "Lüneburger Flügelhauben"
may be on display in the "Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum in Hannover" or, less probably in the Museum in Lüneburg but I`m not sure.

If your interested in iron age and early Medieval bog bodies, I can recommend the Landesmuseum Oldenburg: http://www.naturundmensch.de/html/ausst ... moor.html# and the Ostfriesisches Landesmuseum Emden: http://www.landesmuseum-emden.de/40-0-1

Thank you, all, for your tips. You have certainly got me enthusiastic:... apparently the Bernuthsfeld bog body is in the museum at Emden, and a few rather unknown bodies are at Oldenburg (plus the Kayhauser boy's cape, of which I painted a reconstruction last year). I later remembered that the most important publication on the 'Flugelhaube' originated at the Helms-Museum in Hamburg, so I might try visiting there too.

'Roter Franz' is at the Landesmuseum in Hannover- again the subject of one of the projects I am working on- and seeing I have always wanted to go to that museum... well, I'm gonna have fun. Thank you!

Unfortunately there is no Lüneburger Flügelhaue in original at display at the Helms-Museum in Hamburg. I also don't know if there is a find in the magazine. But in case you hare in Hamburg, please send me a short PM. As far as I remember there is also no original at display in Hannover.
